10.15 bus from Guildford Sq. North to Rhubodach and walk back to Port Bannatyne via West Island Way. The walk is likely to be very wet underfoot and gaiters, poles and warm drink recommended. 7 miles, very hilly, moderate to strenuous. Picnic. Half hourly bus from Port Bannatyne back to Rothesay. Walk for Saturday 28th November 2020
Saturday walk for 28 November will start 10am at Discovery centre. Following West Highland Way past Gartnakelly to Port Bannatyne then down Tramway to Ettrick with option of walking along the bay and back before getting bus back to town. Forecast for Saturday is cold but dry. Initial steep climb out of Rothesay, thereafter easy walking along good paths.

Tramway walk - a message from Angus Hannah
It is ten years since the Landscape Partnership Scheme constructed the Tramway walk, and I had responsibility for selecting and planting the bushes alongside it. This year, finally, I felt it had achieved the vision I had for it, protected from the noise, fumes and distraction of traffic by a pleasing mix of flowering, fruiting and berrying bushes. All this has been recently destroyed by what appears to be an authorised act of vandalism, not content as sometimes in previous years with slicing off the tops of the shrubs, but repeatedly slashing and sawing even into their stumps.
The damage is done, but the important thing is to ensure that such a thing is never allowed to happen again. If left alone, some of the bushes will still recover in a few years, provided they are not subjected to further attack. In the meantime, many folk who used to enjoy walking the path have told me how sad they are now, and that they cannot understand why one of the pleasantest walks on the island has been ravaged in this way. The Bute Conservation Trust has a duty to protect the legacy of the LPS, and I hope they can be trusted to do so more successfully in regard to this walkway in the future.

JimA will do the Ettrick Bay to Straad loop – out on the 9.45am bus North from Guildford Square, walk along the coast to Straad from Ettrick Bay then back over the top – about 7 miles and moderate. The walk will go ahead even if light rain is forecast!

Walk Saturday 14th November 2020 POSTPONED to 21st Nov
An update from JimA, the walk on Saturday is cancelled due to heavy rain forecast, but he will lead this walk the following Saturday, 21st November.
The weather does not look good for Saturday, however if the weather forecast changes for the better, JimA can do the Etterick Bay to Straad loop – out on the 9.45am North from Guildford Square, along the coast to Straad from Ettrick Bay then back over the top – about 7 miles and moderate. However, please check here on Friday night when the leader will have to make a call based on the forecast.
